I wrestle sometimes with understanding the value of artistic pursuits. I've struggled with this since I was a kid.
I know logically that something that so often helps people to understand their humanity, or to see the humanity of others, is of the utmost importance. For me, it’s more about spending the time to make the art that I struggle with. Is what I’m doing important? I’ll ask myself time and time again. And over the decades of doing and creating and then downplaying and hiding, I always come back to the same thought. It’s important because it’s important to me. But I’m also aware, and grateful for the fact, that the art I make is important to others, as well.
And I’m keeping this in mind as I embark upon recording new material this month. I plan to record and release 5 songs by summer 2026 with the help of Hayward Williams and his posse of impressive musician friends. And, dare I say it, I’m excited. I’m thrilled about the possibilities, ecstatic about giving these songs the treatment they deserve, and over the moon about handing them over to an audience who will appreciate and love them as much as I do.
More to come.
